Purdue at Iowa College Basketball Picks Saturday March 5, 2011

THE STORY: The Big Ten's hottest team takes on one of its coldest when No. 6 Purdue wraps up regular-season play with a Saturday afternoon contest at Iowa. The Boilermakers, winners of seven straight games, can still earn a share of the conference title with a win and an Ohio State loss on Sunday. Iowa, meanwhile, has lost its last six, most recently an 85-66 setback at Michigan State on Wednesday. Purdue, which also remains in the hunt for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, coasted to a 75-52 victory over the Hawkeyes on Jan. 9 in West Lafayette, Ind.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT IOWA (10-19, 3-14 Big Ten): The Hawkeyes haven't been able to buy a break – three times during its current six-game skid, Iowa lost by just three points, including twice in overtime. Iowa is the only Big Ten team with a negative scoring margin (minus-0.8) and also ranks last in the conference in 3-point shooting (31.2 percent). Junior guard Matt Gatens leads the team in scoring (12.6 ppg). Freshman forward Melsahn Basabe adds 11.2 points and 6.9 rebounds a night while junior guard Bryce Cartwright averages 10.8 points and 5.8 assists. The Hawkeyes are 7-8 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with a 2-6 mark in Big Ten home games.

ABOUT PURDUE (25-5, 14-3 Big Ten): The Boilermakers have reached the 25-win mark for the fourth straight season, one of just five Division I teams that can currently make that claim. Senior center JaJuan Johnson, a likely All-American, leads the Big Ten in scoring (20.5 ppg) and blocked shots (2.37) while senior guard E'Twaun Moore is fifth in scoring (18.5). Purdue is seventh nationally in assist-turnover ratio (1.51), 12th in turnovers per game (10.7) and 13th in turnover margin (plus-3.93). The Boilermakers have won three straight away games and are 7-4 in true road contests, including 5-3 in conference play.

WHO'S HOT/WHO’S NOT: Moore is averaging 22.0 points during Purdue's current seven-game win streak Johnson has scored at least 20 points in each of Purdue's last seven road games. Basabe has led the Hawkeyes in both scoring and rebounding in each of the past three games.

KEY STATISTIC: Purdue has won 40 straight games when scoring at least 70 points, a mark it has reached in five of its last six contests.

RECENT HISTORY: The Boilermakers have won the last eight meetings, including three straight by double digits. Iowa's last victory over Purdue came in 2007, a 78-59 rout at home.

LOOKING AHEAD: Iowa will either be the No. 10 or 11 seed in the Big Ten tournament, with a first-round game Thursday, while Purdue has clinched a top-three seed and a bye to the quarterfinals.

LAST WORD: “As long as we take care of our business, hopefully Wisconsin can beat (Ohio State) and we can share the title, but if they don't, at the end of the day we can say we finished out strong.” – Purdue junior guard Lewis Jackson. College Basketball Picks take Iowa.

Kansas State vs Florida College Basketball Odds

kansas-state-basketball-cheerleaderKansas State vs Florida College Basketball Odds: Two Top 25 teams meet in the Orange Bowl Classic at Sunrise, Florida as the #6 Kansas State Wildcats (9-1) versus #24 Florida (7-2). Kansas State is favored by -1 ½ in a college basketball picks contest that features two teams that have trouble scoring, so this should be a closely-played, tight college basketball picks contest.

The only loss Kansas State has suffered all season was to #1 Duke and, since, the team has reeled off five straight victories against less-than stellar competition. Kansas State has struggled at times scoring points and shooting, but they are one of the best rebounding teams in the nation. The team is led by a core of senior leaders including guard Jacob Pullen, who leads the team with 16.3 PPG, and forward Curtis Kelly with 11.6 PPG. Sophomore guard Rodney McGruder has added 11 PPG and 6.2 RPG.

Florida is one of the lowest scoring and rebounding teams in the nation but, when they shoot, they are accurate. The Gators have lost to #5 Ohio State University and the University of Central Florida, but can count Florida State among one of their seven wins. Florida State features a balanced offense. Junior guard Erving Walker and sophomore guard Kenny Bonton lead the team in scoring with 12 points each, while forwards Vernon Macklin and Chandler Parsons averages 10 points.

NCAA College Basketball Preview - Big East/SEC Invitational

pitt-panthers-college-basketball-picksNCAA College Basketball Preview - Big East/SEC Invitational: The Big East/SEC Invitational continues on Saturday as the #3 Pitt Panthers (10-0) host the #13 Tennessee Volunteers (6-0) as the NCAA College Basketball picks season heads toward conference action.

Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl has been fighting recruiting allegations but, on Saturday, he must face the #3 team in the nation in the undefeated Pitt Panthers. The Volunteers are 6-0 and have already defeated a Big East power, #7 Villanova, earlier in the season. Tennessee features a strong inside game with forward Tobias Harris, their leading scorer with 16.7 PPG as well as a big, 6-7 guard in Scotty Hopson (16.3 PPG). Rebounding is also a strong suit for the Vols, who average 42 rebounds a game, which is good for 14th in the nation.

The Panthers get off the team bus rebounding and are ranked 4th in the nation so the battle of the boards could tell the tale of this game since neither team have been good at shooting. Guard Ashton Gibbs is the go-to guy for Pitt and is a sharp shooter, averaging 17.4 points per game. The Panthers can go 11 deep and have a bunch of strong rebounders in Gary McGhee, Talib Zanna, and Dante Taylor. Taylor has come on as of late and has given the Panthers a solid third scoring option to go with Gibbs and swing man Brad Wannamker (12.8 PPG).

The Panthers have defeated #22 Texas and Maryland but have not faced an opponent the caliber of Tennessee but they are favored by -8 points.

The game will be played at the Consol Energy Center as part of a basketball doubleheader also featuring Rutgers (5-2) versus Auburn (3-4).

NCAA Basketball: Miami-Florida vs Texas

Miami-Florida vs Texas will be on the back burner of sorts for the this March Madness Easter Sunday game at 2:15 ET with Texas expected to dominate but don’t count out the underrated boys from Miami Florida. On a recent ESPN.com poll 93% of the nation is picking the Texas Longhorns to move on to the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament and leave Miami in the dust. Sportsbetting.com has the Texas as -7 point NCAA College Basketball Betting Odds.

The overlooked key intangible in this game however is the longtime coaching associates Frank Haith and Rick Barnes send their respective teams into battle on this religious holiday and it will be emotional. The Canes wiped out St. Mary’s Gaels 78-64 in the first round as +1.5 point underdogs bringing their ATS record to an outstanding 16-7-3 clip. Miami Guard Jack McClinton was on fire dropping 38 points in a huge game for the college that saw UM win their first NCAA tournament game inNCAA Basketball: Miami-Florida vs TexasSportsbetting.com 8 years. has the TOTAL at 140.5 point NCAA College Basketball Betting Odds.

The Longhorns have been a solid bet this season going 16-12-1 ATS being led by a trio of scoring threats that average double digits in points per game. Texas not only can score but they also excel at playing mistake-free basketball with an NCAA best 9.4 turnovers per game. While it looks to be a daunting task on paper I do remember a certain Florida Gators team winning a national title against all odds. Miami has  bigger players than Texas when you take a closer look, but if they want to win they will need to bring their A-game for 40 full minutes to pull off the huge upset today.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Washington State at North Carolina

The NCAA Tournament resumes on Thursday with the “Sweet 16 as Washington State looks to continue their run against top-ranked North Carolina.  The Sports News Authority live lines feed shows that BetUS.com has the North Carolina Tar Heels –8 point favorites against the Washington State Cougars with a over/under of 142 points.

The Cougars held Winthrop to 11 second-half points in a first-round romp, followed by a statement 20-point win over Notre Dame. Washington State are known for their tough defense, but they may have put in their best effort of the season by shutting down the high-powered Fighting Irish, most notably holding Notre Dame's Luke Harangody to ten points on 3-for-17 shooting.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Washington State at North CarolinaThe three-headed guard combination of Derrick Low, Kyle Weaver and Taylor Rochestie sparks the team offensively, but on defense, everyone gets involved for Washington State.

The Tar Heels have had a relatively easy road thus far, thrashing Mount St. Mary's and Arkansas by an average margin of 35 points. For all the talk surrounding Tyler Hansbrough, the Tar Heels need Wayne Ellington and Danny Green to step up and take some pressure off of the Naismith award finalist. The Tar Heels are 8-point favorites in this tilt, and they should come away with the win as Washington State struggles to deal with perimeter players such as Hansbrough.  Get your Free NCAA Basketball Pick in Now!
