NHL Picks Vancouver vs Colorado NHL Betting Odds

NHL Picks Vancouver vs Colorado NHL Betting Odds - The Vancouver Canucks (29-10-6) have been dominant this season, ranking third in the West in goals scored, and tied for first in least allowed, while racking-up 64 points to lead the entire National Hockey League. They’ll visit a Colorado Avalanche team that is on the fringe of playoff contention with a 23-16-6 NHL Picks record, good enough for 52 points and the eighth spot in the playoff race. In fact, if the playoffs were to begin tomorrow, the Avs would face the Canucks.

Colorado plays an up-tempo, high-scoring brand of hockey with wingers who put the puck in the net including Matt Duchene (18), Paul Statsny (16), Milan Hejduk (14), and David Jones (14). Unfortunately, the other team seems to score just as often, though goalie Craig Anderson has been hot as of late with a 1.99 GAA in his past three games.

Anderson will have to be at his best since Vancouver can score too. The Sedin Brothers have been on fire this season and Daniel Sedin, coming back from injury, leads the team with 58 points, including 27 goals. This team is deep, with 13 players scoring 5 or more goals, and features Olympian Gold medalist Roberto Luongo in net. Luongo is in the midst of a hot streak, with a 4-0-1 record with a 1.55 GAA in his past games.

This could be a battle of the goalies but give the edge to Luongo and the Canucks.NHL Betting Picks Bet on Vancouver vs Colorado  UNDER the total.

NHL News: A Pair of White (Cold) Russians NHL Betting Odds

NHL Analysis: A Pair of White (Cold) Russians NHL Betting Odds - With the Washington Capitals and the Pittsburgh Penguins missing their All-Star centers to injury, the timing couldn’t be more perfect for Russian stars Alexander Ovchekin and Evgeni Malkin to step-up and take control of their teams . . . and both have been disappointing.

Washington is missing star center Alexander Semin, who leads the team with 18 goals, and currently is residing on the IR list with a hip injury. Seems a perfect time for Ovchekin to break-out of a scoring slump that began before Christmas. Since December 23, the great Washington winger has netted just three goals and six points, in a span that has lasted ten games. He has been taking his shots, 208 to be exact, but hasn’t made a difference on the scoreboard. In fact, he has had six games with no points, including his last three games. Going into his team’s games against the Philadelphia Flyers he was on pace for just 79 points, his worst season in the NHL, and it would be about time Alexander the Great gets on the score sheet.

In Pittsburgh, Malkin is going through a similar slump. Since he lit-up the Phoenix Coyotes for 5 points on December 20, he has had just 2 goals and 6 points in a span of 12 Betting Odds games. He is on pace for just 67 points, his worst point production totals of his NHL career. Worse, without Crosby, he has just two assists in five games in a time when his team needs the talented winger/center the most.

What gives? Both players have a world of talent, maybe top-5 talent, yet both have struggled to find their games this season. Maybe they need a helping of Mama Malkin’s borscht or a jaunt to one of Ovie’s favorite night spots – whatever, their teams need them, and they need them now. Tampa Bay at Carolina NHL Picks & NHL Odds Jan 15 2011

Tampa Bay at Carolina NHL Picks & NHL Odds Jan 15 2011 - How can Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Dwayne Roloson shut-out the Washington Capitals twice in two games and, in between, get pulled in an 8-1 NHL Picks loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins? That’s exactly what happened when the Lightning defeated Washington 3-0, on Wednesday, marking the second time in two tries that the veteran has blanked the high-scoring Caps. NHL Odds Makers have listed Carolina -130 favorites over Tampa Bay.

Roloson has a 3-1 record since being acquired from the Islanders and has helped the Lightning to a division lead with a 26-13-5 record, good for 57 points. Goaltending has been an issue for Tampa all season Mike Smith and Dan Ellis unable to get the job done.

The Lightning’s new goaltender will take his act on the road as his team travels down Tobacco Road to take-on the Carolina Panthers. Carolina (21-15-6) is on the fringe of the playoff hunt with 48 points and needs this divisional game to close the gap on the Southeast leading Lightning. Carolina has been led by C Eric Staal, who leads the team with 21 goals and 42 points. Surprising Jeff Skinner has 14 goals to complement Staal. In net, Cam Ward has had to face over 1100 shots and has fared well with a 2.62 GAA.

Ward will have to stop the League’s #3 scoring team and the second leading goal-scorer in Steven Stamkos. Tampa has a 13-10-3 away record and that could play a factor in his road divisional NHL Picks game.

Crosby, Ovechkin set to make returns

Crosby, Ovechkin set to make returns The two top scorers in fantasy return to action in Monday's nine-game slate. Penguins star center Sidney Crosby (29 games, 19-17-36, owned in 99 percent of all Yahoo! leagues), the third leading scorer in the NHL, sat out his first game of the season on Saturday with a sore groin. But not to worry, Crosby owners, the superstar will be back for Monday's home game against Carolina.

"I'm in," Crosby told Pittsburgh's team Web site. "I've had a good couple days of rest and got it worked on. There's no more pain. That's all I really wanted to get rid of. I can deal with it right now." "With the speed and the pace and what other teams have to bring to the table, when he's out there playing his game 5-on-5 and on the power play it's a different level than your average player coming back to the lineup. We'll gladly insert him in his spot," coach Dan Bylsma said.

Also on Monday, Chris Kunitz (19, 3-9-12, 53 percent) and Alex Goligoski (21, 6-10-16, 67 percent) returned to practice for the first time following their injuries (lower-body and undisclosed, respectively), but neither is expected to play. "I'm feeling better and better so ... when they let me go out and do different things and start practicing with the team, we'll know from there," Kunitz told the Post-Gazette. "Until we get to that point, I don't really have an idea."

Brodeur carries shutout

New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur has a shutoutNew Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur has a shutout through two periods Monday night against the Buffalo Sabres as he bids to tie Terry Sawchuk for the all-time shutout record. Brodeur had a fairly light workload through 40 minutes, as the Devils outshot the Sabres 26-12 and led 3-0 on goals by Brian Rolston, Travis Zajac and Niclas Bergfors. He maintained the shutout through the first half of the third period, though the Sabres picked up the attack with five shots, helped by a high-sticking minor to Mark Fraser. Brodeur stopped a hard shot by Thomas Vanek with about 8:40 left, after the penalty had expired.
